The Callum L Gamble Team is proud to have joined the UK Parliament’s Accessibility and Inclusion Programme as Autism Champions.
We assess and provide feedback to the programme on the UK Parliament’s website and visits to the Houses of Parliament to make them more accessible and inclusive to autistic visitors. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference for autistic people, and we are immensely grateful to the project leader, Annie Waddington, for running this programme so passionately!
On Monday, March 24th 2025, we joined a group of 12 Autism Champions to assess and provide feedback on the tour of the Speaker’s House, available to visitors of the Houses of Parliament.
The assessment points were:
🔰 Information available before the visit
🔰 Arrival and security
🔰 The Speaker’s House Tour
🔰 The implementations following the first round of assessments and feedback from the House of Commons Tour in July 2024.
The feedback concerning the very knowledgeable tour guide and the information available before the visit was positive. Some reasonable adjustments should be made to the information delivery and rest periods during the tour. The arrival and security assessment brought up that further improvements were required in addition to the adjustments made since July. However, the consensus was that the experience of going through security had improved since then.
The Speaker’s House tour is a relatively new addition to the Houses of Parliament tour (since 2022). We were blown away by the atmosphere in the rooms, the history of the house and the portraits of the 158 speakers so far!
After our feedback meeting, we attended the academic consultation with members of the UK House of Lords regarding a review by the Autism Act 2009 Committee. During this meeting, we met Baroness Angela Browning, a steering member of the committee, who invited us to submit evidence for the lived experience consultation of the review process. If you are autistic and want to submit evidence, please follow this link: Call for Evidence Autism Act 2009. This presents a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference for autistic people in the UK!
